Raise the roof: The porch is covered!
The porch roof is up. The sheathing and rolled roofing went up quickly and we are all set for whatever winter throws at us this year.
We worked with the existing structure so there will not be any overhanging soffits….we will have to vent the roof another way.
We decided to cover the porch ceiling with beadboard paneling. We are also going to run electrical for two overhead lights. Ceiling fans for those hot summer days maybe? Not sure yet.
We had to remove the gutter on the kitchen wall because it used to run under the corner of the old roofing. When the existing gutter came down to remove the old roof covering we discovered rotten wood. We replaced the rotten fascia board behind the gutter, and had a new gutter of the new length need made. Finally got around to painting it (oil based primer with two latex top coats) gutter will go up soon.
Notice all of the crazy out of control ivy full of icky spiders? Not fun to lean up against with a paint brush in your hand.
I can’t wait to put my new dining set on the finished deck

It looks like it was quite a bit of work, but well worth it. Will you be planting any flowering vines to grow up the porch posts?
We are going to wrap the posts in clear pine to make them larger – more like columns and then trim them out. That will have to wait for the Spring though. The railing will also come down – it’s sort of awful.
Looks great! Your house is gorgeous!
thanks! It is coming along….I want to get most of it done this season before the winter.
